To mark its 30th anniversary, Opera for All is delighting Munich audiences. This summer, as part of the Munich Opera Festival, a performance will once again be broadcast live and free of charge from the Nationaltheater to the Max-Joseph-Platz and on Staatsoper.tv. This year’s program features a new production of Richard Wagner’s Die Walküre, directed by Tobias Kratzer and conducted by General Music Director Vladimir Jurowski.
On June 25th 2026, the curtain rose on the festival premiere of Richard Wagner’s Die Walküre. With this production, director Tobias Kratzer and General Music Director Vladimir Jurowski continue their work on The Ring of Nibelungen. Nicholas Brownlee will star alongside Ain Anger, Joachim Bäckström, Irene Roberts, and Miina-Liisa Värelä in the leading roles.
The art song is arguably the most concentrated form through which the human voice can express itself musically. This year, as part of the Munich Opera Festival, international singers such as Jonas Kaufmann, Asmik Grigorian, Ludovic Tézier, Diana Damrau, and Christian Gerhaher will once again perform programs of their own choosing alongside renowned pianists.
Starting Wednesday, June 24, 2026, the Apollon Stufenbar will once again invite visitors to relax on the steps of the Nationaltheater while enjoying a drink. At the opening celebration, DJ Chelo, DJ Chadee, musicians from the Bayerisches Staatsorchester, and members of the Bayerische Staatsoper’s opera studio will provide musical entertainment featuring electronic sounds, soul, R&B, and opera arias. On days when there are no performances, the Stufennächte (Step Nights) will once again take place, featuring DJs and live music.
Every summer for six weeks, the Munich Opera Festival transforms Munich into an international festival hub. For over 150 years, the Bayerische Staatsoper has presented a festival program of extraordinary diversity. Look forward to three premieres, numerous opera and ballet productions, concerts, and recitals.
Every friday 11.00 am until 5.00 pm
